Overview
Magadi's surface crust of soda ash, mined commercially at one end of the lake, creates one of the most visually extreme landscapes in Kenya's Rift Valley - alongside Lake Natron in Tanzania, it's one of the region's most alkaline environments, supporting flamingos able to tolerate what would be lethal conditions for most other wildlife.
