Overview
Samburu's arid, semi-desert landscape supports a distinct set of wildlife often called the 'Samburu Special Five' - Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich and beisa oryx - none of which are typically seen in the Masai Mara or Amboseli. It's also one of Kenya's quieter reserves, with noticeably fewer vehicles than the southern circuit.
