Overview
Rongai is the sole route that starts on Kilimanjaro's northern flank, near the Kenyan border, giving it noticeably drier conditions and fewer climbers than the southern routes. It's a gradual, forested ascent that some climbers find gentler than Machame, though the descent is via a different route (Marangu), giving you two distinct landscapes on a single climb.
