Overview
The Shira Route shares much of its upper mountain path with the Machame route but begins differently - a drive to a high-altitude starting point on the Shira Plateau rather than a forested trailhead walk. This front-loads elevation gain earlier, which some climbers find helps or hinders acclimatization depending on individual response to altitude.

Day 1: Start Your Tanzania Safari
Your safari begins with pickup and a scenic drive toward your selected safari destination. Add full itinerary days from the operator dashboard or directly into the tour_itinerary table.

Getting There
Tour Start & End
This tour starts in Arusha and ends in the Shira Plateau trailhead.
Airport Information
Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha Airport are the most common arrival points for northern Tanzania safaris.
Transfer Information
Most climbers fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) near Arusha or Moshi, where the operator arranges hotel pickup before transfer to the trailhead gate.
